Celebrations are a time to let those you love know that you love them. A weekend trip to a city that prides itself on cutting-edge cuisine allowed me an opportunity to express my love. I recently went to Austin for a slew of June birthdays and felt this was an apropos opportunity to articulate the happiness that my friends provide. I wanted to give back. But how? There was only one clear answer: to make them a batch of fresh Velveeta Cheese Fudge.
Inspired by Eadweard Muybridge, I thought one of the best ways to capture the sheer range of emotions of eating said ‘food’ was to display it via picture series. Revel in the evolving spectrum of human response. Some say the eyes are the window to the soul. I say it’s a mouth fulla processed cheese product and two pounds of sugar.
This is how one should feel when you’ve created the perfect dish. The following recipes will result in the exact opposite sensation.
I started this tumblr for one reason and one reason only: to share with the world my delight in the most revolting recipes. Where did I find these gems? Surfing the infotainment superjetway? An old magazine in my garage? My local grocer’s end cap aisle next to the spices with those little recipe cards that no one ever uses? No…all of those would have made far too much sense. You see, I live near what some call “the edge of the universe”.
Living this far away from the big, frightening city with its “steel monkeys” and “petrol-powered buggies”, I was left with one choice for my electric company - a small co-op. They’re fine, as fine as any utility company except for one special thing: every month included in my bill is a newsletter. The highlight of the newsletter is an enlightening section called “Cooperative Kitchen”.
Over time I’ll post ACTUAL recipes presumably submitted by only southern grandmas so that you, too, can bask in these triumphs of modern cuisine.
